Title: Comprehensive Tobacco-Control Programs Reduce Smoking in New York City
According to a study published in the Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, the most susceptible youths lose autonomy over tobacco within a day or two of first inhaling from a cigarette.
Joseph R. DiFranza, MD, of the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, and colleagues further found that the appearance of tobacco withdrawal symptoms and failed attempts at cessation can precede daily smoking. Additionally, ICD-10-defined dependence can precede daily smoking and typically appears before consumption reaches two cigarettes per day.
